Yaxley's homes, old and new

Yaxley is a village in Huntingdonshire, on the southern edge of Peterborough. It appears in the Domesday Book, and St Peter's Church is Grade I listed. The population grew from under 4,000 in 1971 to over 9,000 today, with especially fast growth in the 1970s and 1980s.

Homes from the 1970s and 1980s

A village that has more than doubled in size since 1971 has many homes from recent decades. Houses of this age may have had floors replaced more than once. Old tiles, adhesive or hardboard can sit under a worn carpet, so we check the base before we quote.

LVT and laminate need a flat floor or the joints show. Levelling, where needed, costs £5–£15 per m² and appears in the quote. There are no extras on fitting day.

If your house is older

Older properties may have solid floors with no damp-proof membrane. We test for moisture before laying LVT or wood. Carpet over a good underlay is often the simplest answer in those rooms.

Choosing for family life

LVT in the hall and kitchen copes with shoes, pets and spills. A twist carpet stands up to heavy use on stairs and landings. In bedrooms, a saxony or wool-mix carpet feels softer underfoot.

Stairs take the most wear in any house. We measure each step at the visit, so the stair price is fixed before work starts. A dense underlay helps the carpet keep its pile on the busiest treads.
